Welcome

My name is Laurie, but I go by Layla. I am happy to welcome you to BioLyra Health. BioLyra Health was born out of my desire to help people navigate chronic health conditions, especially those impacted by mental health challenges such as trauma, anxiety, or ADHD. BioLyra is a word I created to express the idea of tuning into our inner guidance system and receiving help from higher wisdom to navigate stormy seas, as sailors would do by looking to the stars.

After many years of personal and family struggles, I developed a constellation of non-specific symptoms such as migraine headaches, nausea, and debilitating fatigue, leading to the eventual diagnosis of fibromyalgia, possible mold sickness, and a rare immune condition. While trying to understand the cause of my symptoms, I often felt lost in a sea of conflicting information with little direction on how to get to a safe shore. I desperately wanted to find the best providers and treatments and make the right choices for my care, but there were so many voices with so many opinions about what was considered the “right” care. This confusion about what information was credible led me to rely heavily on my own intuition and inner sense of direction…

…which bled over into my career path as I sought to integrate my curiosity and love of learning with this quest to understand and heal myself. Through a series of fortunate events, I decided to venture beyond my work in computer networking and enter the world of library and information science, the first stop on my journey to build a knowledge base from which to draw when making crucial decisions.

The stops along the way included the following:

Earning a Master of Science in Library and Information Science (MLS)

Followed by a Post-Bac in Medical Laboratory Science, which led to becoming an American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Certified Medical Laboratory Scientist

Followed by studying public health and earning a Graduate Certificate in Infection Control from the University of South Florida, training in cancer surveillance at the Medical University of South Carolina, and working in oncology data analysis…

Finally, studying behavior change theories and health coaching to become a Wellcoaches Certified Health and Well-being Coach.

This knowledge base helped me take back control of my health, leading to the right experts and treatment, and is what equips me to offer you a variety of personalized services.

As a librarian, I specialize in finding answers, connecting you with resources, and meeting you with understanding and acceptance. In other words, I help you navigate. As a laboratory scientist with additional training in infection control, I have a general background in biomedical science and a specialty in laboratory testing, so I can help you make sense of your laboratory test results. Finally, I am a Wellcoaches certified health coach and would love to offer support and guidance as you seek to make changes toward a more joyful, healthy, and fulfilling life. The thread that ties this all together is remembering that you are already whole and complete, and not all healing is physical. My experience has shown me that real healing involves the whole person, body, mind, and spirit.

I look forward to meeting you!
